Kitchen Cabinet Measuring Basics

When measuring for new cabinets, countertops or any other areas of the kitchen, we ask that you measure in inches to make things as easy as possible. If you are measuring for new cabinets, you will need to know the following:

  • Finished floor to ceiling height
  • Finished floor to top of wall cabinet
  • Soffit/open area height
  • Wall cabinet height
  • Lower cabinet height
  • Length and width of the existing kitchen

With these measurements, we will have what we need to make your new cabinets. At LPS Kitchen Cabinets, we will not only provide quality cabinets, but we will be happy to deliver and install them as well. No matter what your needs may be, we are the team to call on Long Island.

Helpful Measuring Tips

When measuring kitchen cabinets and other areas of your kitchen, it is important to do things properly. That’s why the design experts at LPS Kitchen Cabinets have come up with these tips to get you started:

  • Use the proper tools: tape measure, straight edge and graph paper.
  • Always measure both the height and width.
  • Include trim in all measurements of things like windows and doors.
  • Measure in an orderly fashion so you don’t get confused about what you have and have not measured.
  • Measuring clockwise (working to your right around the room) is usually a good rule of thumb.
  • Label everything you have measured with a number.
  • Find a centerline for all permanent features in your kitchen to help you make exact measurements.
  • While you’re measuring everything else in your kitchen, measure your pots and pans so you can select the right drawer height and width.
